SIX BIG risk factors

"Stay Healthy in Middle Age and you will live to 85"

Recent study in the US followed almost 6,000 men aged 54 for 40 years, repeatedly testing them for six major diseases as well as mental and physical impairment, almost 2,500 lived to the age of 85. And more than 1 in 10 was free from disease, physically able to walk half a mile with ease and showed no sign of mental decline. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the biggest common factor was their behaviour in middle age.

Experts say that key rules to living longer are:

Eat healthily; stay slim; monitor blood pressure and cholesterol; exercise; keep your brain active and get married.

Did you know "the average man in the UK lives to 76 and women to over 80"

These may not be a big surprise to you, however the six big risk factors are:

  3. Obesity
  4. Exercise
  5. High blood pressure
  6. High cholesterol
