Each month we bring you a sports personality thanks to EAS. The company supplies and sponsors numerous world-class athletes and is increasingly being recognised as providing 'products the pros use'.
This month meet Tim Don , this year's triathlon world champion
British triathlete Tim Don is the 2006 World Champion, having won the tough championship course on Sunday, September 3, 2006. Here he tells us more and shares some hints and tips.
"EAS Energy has literally powered me to become the 2006 World Champion. I couldn't have trained as hard as I did, nor performed as well across all three disciplines without these supplements. During the race, the EAS Energy Gels are my number one product: I just knock back the sachet during the cycle leg and that's the pure energy boost that my body takes on board for the final run." Tim Don, 2006 World Champion, Triathlon
"I was a sporty child. Dad was an International Football ref and took me to quite a few games. I used to swim for Teddington in the club championships when I was a boy and from an early age I liked to win and loved the buzz of racing to get there first.
"I got the Triathlon bug when I was 15 when I met a guy who used to swim with my swim squad. He was about five years older than me and had just become the Triathlon World Champion. I enjoyed running, knew I could swim and ride a bike and thought I'd give it a go.
"There's such variety within the training that it is always so interesting. One of my sessions is a 100km ride followed by a 10km run, back to back. Runners would never do anything like that and nor would cyclists. There's also less injury risk as you don't need to do as much running as a runner, as much cycling as a cyclist or as much swimming as a swimmer. If you do get injured or strained doing one discipline you can keep your fitness doing the others. Swimming is a great way to recover after an injury or illness - for everyone, not just professional athletes."
Food Fuel
Nutrition is vital for Tim's training, performance and recovery. "During training I take electrolyte drinks and often a carbohydrate drink too. After a heavy gym session or a swim, a protein recovery drink ensures my body and muscles recoup, ready for the next session the next day."
"During the season, I get up at 5.30am for a swim followed by a bike ride and a run in the evening. My diet is carbohydrate based with muesli for breakfast, followed by salads, vegetables and rice later in the day. But this alone is not enough to support my body through 30 hours' training a week!"
Energy from EAS
"I use the EAS Energy range to help sustain my energy levels during the race and recover afterwards. When I train I have an electrolyte drink for energy and afterwards a recovery drink with protein. Good quality sports nutrition is essential to help refuel the body with the right balance of protein, carbohydrate, minerals, vitamins and trace elements. If I want to be able to get out of bed the next day, I have to put back what I've taken out.
Want to tri?
"My advice is start with the swimming as it's a great way to get fit and of the three disciplines it's the one most people don't do as well. Get that right, and then use your improved fitness to get cycling and running. Keep at it. Set realistic goals. Relax, enjoy, eat and sleep well.
